Part 1 will open on the Black Sea in Batumi and climb into the Greater Caucasus. Mestia’s watchtowers and glaciers will set the early tone, followed by a quiet pause around Vardzia’s cave monastery. From there the route will slip into Armenia for Yerevan, Dilijan, and gravel toward Gosh.

Back in Tbilisi, the road will turn east to Baku. Cars will board a cargo vessel to Turkmenistan, where Ashgabat’s marble skyline will meet the open Karakum. The line will continue through Khiva’s clay walls, across the fractured basin of the Aral Sea, and into the space-age relics of Baikonur.

The approach to Central Asia’s high roads will come via Turkestan and into Tajikistan. The Pamir Highway will carry the convoy above four thousand meters, before a last high-altitude breath through Kyrgyzstan delivers the group to Kashgar, the historic Uyghur caravan city. Hotels will be inspected and placed for calm. Navigation will run offline, with permits and borders prepared in advance.

The car

A capable 4×4 is required. Think Toyota Land Cruiser, Land Rover Discovery, Toyota Hilux, or similar. Essential items include adequate ground clearance, underbody protection, quality all-terrain tires, two spare wheels, a compressor, and a VHF radio; helpful extras include a dual-battery system, a fridge, tablet mount, and additional USB power. All modifications are documented so any mechanic knows what sits where. Technical support will be on the road, border assistance is arranged, and the goal is simple: everyone reaches the finish.

Accommodation

We select and personally inspect hotels for location and calm before departure; dinners and breakfasts are included on driving days, and in larger stops you can dine independently with recommendations provided and costs reimbursed to keep the experience simple. Where the route enters very remote areas, expect a few simpler nights that trade luxury for access and atmosphere.

Far East Part 2

From Kashgar the road will follow the Karakoram Highway into Pakistan. The Khunjerab Pass will mark the high point, with glaciers and turquoise rivers shaping the days toward Islamabad and Lahore. The Wagah border ceremony will frame the crossing into India.
